On November 11 and 12, 2006, the V. International Jan Koetsier Competition for Brass Chamber Music will take place in the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Munich. In 2006 the category is Brass Quintet.
The competition is open to brass quintets with an average age of not more than 27 years. The jury chaired by Jan Koetsier – the other jurors are Wolfram Arndt, Oswald Beaujean, Wolfgang Gaag, Hannes Läubin, Michael Oehme, Will Sanders and Josef Steinböck – decides on prizes totalling – 10.500 plus two programmes broadcast on German radio stations. Jan Koetsier?s compositions have their own particular place within the repertoire of brass players. The composer has given a special impulse to the study and performance of brass chamber music in the world of music. In 1993 Jan Koetsier endowed a foundation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in order to raise the international profile of brass chamber music. An important strand of this work is the organisation of the International Jan Koetsier Competition for brass chamber music, which takes place every two years.
