Slide Factory 2009 – European Trombone Festival
After the successful editions of Slide Factory 2005 and 2007, the New Trombone Collective organizes Slide Factory 2009 – European Trombone Festival in Rotterdam NL at 26-29 March 2009. This festival is bigger and features more artists than ever!
The festival opens on Thursday with the world famous trombone soloists Joseph Alessi, Michel Becquet, Jörgen van Rijen and Stefan Schulz. They have decided to join their forces and form a Trombone Quartet. Also the New Trombone Collective en Wycliffe Gordon will play at this special opening concert.
On Friday you can enjoy the concert of the Corpus Trombone Quartet from Budapest. In the evening world’s most famous trombonist, composer and conductor, Christian Lindberg from Sweden, conducts the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Trombone Collective. They play the world premiere of Linbergs’ Waves of Wollongong. After this concert there’s a Jazz café where Wycliffe Gordon en Nils Wogram search for their roots.
On Saturday there is the Gala concert with the New Trombone Collective, Michel Becquet and Joseph Alessi. In the Jazz café the Young Sinatras tore down the roof.
On Sunday slide meets sax during the concert of the New Trombone Collective and the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet. Slide Factory will close with a spectacular jazz concert. Codarts conservatory’s’ big band conducted by one of the greatest Dutch trombonists, Ilja Reijngoud will accompany a jazz hero whose name will be revealed soon.

Important part of the festival is that all participants have the chance to play together with professional players, conservatory students and other participants. There are workshops and all trombone players at the festival form together the Slide Factory Trombone Choir. They will play a new piece which Andrew Peggie (United Kingdom) has composed specially for the festival.
Besides the concerts many trombone brands and music shops are present to promote their instruments, music or CD’s. A good chance to find new mouthpieces, sheetmusic or recordings. Experts are ready to answer all questions.
